Wow putt slutt is saying the same thing i have been trying to say for awhile. I hate going to play disc and haveing to pay every time too. No let me put it this way . I hate haveing to pay some one else to play disc. I hardley ever get back any thing i pay to play. I know GET BETTER right ?thats what you all want to tell me. But why cant we pay to play and put it back to where we are playing back into the course ?. Or give the money to a charity?. why are we always paying the good and great players to play??as far as getting lightning discs and stuff .. i think thats great too .. yea i would rather have some premium discs from a tourney . but i like getting some of that cheap crap too . I just give it away to some kidds and get them on there way to a great sport and a great life as discgolfers. so take the cheep crap and make some kid happy.

You can always play for free and fun.
When you play a tourney or a league, $$ is why people play. If you tried to get people to drive anywhere and pay 1 dollar to play, and the money went to who knows where, you may be the only one their.
This all belongs on a different thread. This thread is devoted to making the KDGA better in 06.

nope you misunderstood me. i don't hate payin to play and i also don't have a problem with donating to better golfers (assuming my cash stays in my division). i just can't stand it when a td disrespects the people that attend the event by shoveling the cheapest plastic he can get his hands on into their face. kinda shitty when you value your payout plastic at 8-10 bucks when you only give 3.50 for it.

Smitty, sorry for being such a hard ass but its my nature dude, I say what I feel.
Wife, thanks for putting things in perspective sometimes a kid like me needs a little redirection and a mom is all it takes.
I know my brash comments come off more negative than positive but thats one quality I lack. If a question was asked as far as the pros and cons of this and that I would have more cons than pros...........thats jus me dude. As hard as its gonna be I guess I will refrain from further opinionated posts.

This may be far out there, however it would be fun to see.
A kdga newsletter that consists of pictures of events and such.
I know it sounds like it takes alot of money..but it doesn't if we use our resources. Here in Emporia we have a Flint Hills Tech School, they offer a program in graphic arts. It is so cheap to have the students print in single colors, so you can use colors, but no four color process for the pictures..owell. That would take out the big expense of printing.
I'm sure there are alot of pros and cons in making a REAL newsletter with pictures of ams, women, juniors, o and pros. It would be cool to see something like every three months come out showing local Ks players in it.
If there is already one then I guess I'm out of the loop as a member

Okay,
I'll throw out another idea. This one may have been tried, so let me know the results if it has been. If we want to focus on growing the sport then our demographics would be kids right? So maybe we could coordinate clinics with the tour next year. For example, next year when we play in Abeliene set up a clinic throughout the entire school district on that Friday. We'll teach them the fundamentals and invite them to come compete in a free recreational division at the tournament on Saturday. This way they can get the feel for the game and tournament style play, they would also become familiar with what the KDGA is. It would give the KDGA some identity and credibility in the community. It might also be a momentum builder for a dormant disc golf community.

We have so many people that play disc in Wichita that I have talked too, that just have fun in there own groups and dont really want to get involved. And its not that they dont like the things(money) They just come out to play golf / most of them are just starting and want to get better before they do any moving up..
I will agree with Smitty. I could do more also. If you edit to much you are accused of trying to control to much and if you let things ride you are a A$$ HOLE. The last time before the board crashed it was being said that it was to controlling so this time we have been leting it ride and now we don't do enough. It is a fine line just where is it drawn? I know that Smitty would agree that if someone or someone's would like to take this from us it would help us out. PM one of us if you are interested.smitty wrote:As far as moderating goes, I should do a better job. I do change a few post here and there and delete some.
I should do a better job. I just get a kick out of jab here and there.
I have asked to be removed as a moderator in the past. I am one of the main people that stir the pot on this stupid thing.

My .5 cent
I've been golfing since 88 and have yet to join the KDGA. In the early 90's I always told myself I would next year cause all my friends were doing it but alas I'm still KDGA membershipless. Both my friends stopped being members too. They just got old.
These days I'm lucky to make two tourneys a year. I'm a casual golfer. If I'm lucky I'm working on the weekends. Penalizing me for not being a member isn't going to attract me to more tourneys nor is it going to encourage me to join. If anything it'll alienate me more. Sure it's only $2-$3 bucks but principle is more valuable then money.
Positive reinforcement is the answer. Do more to reinforce the benefits at each tourney. Set up a colorful KDGA booth. Keep reminding me at each tourney how warm and fuzzy the KDGA life is. Keep reminding me how cool I would be if only I were a member. Remind me of how much chicks dig members. I don't have anything against joining. I just never get around to it. I need to be reminded a lot.
I also like to get things in the mail. It makes me feel special. Add a few news letters or even a post card once in a while and I'm in! Probably more work then realistically possible or maybe you already do this. Oh raise the cost of membership to include a Disc Golf World News subscription and.....Mmmm Mmmm I'm getting goose bumps!
As for the moderating topic, which should be a different thread, people are responsible for what they post. Not the moderators. Their job should be the easiest job in the world. Our first amendment right tells us so. If I post something stupid, which I never do, it's my own fault.
I'm not against adding a "blah blah blah/anything goes" section. As for scarring potential members off I don't think that's the case. If so it's only the ones that can read. People they meet on the course have more of an impact then people they read about.
p.s. and whoever's idea it was to try and add courses at the state lakes and camp grounds....love it!!!

Um, money is not the only reason people play.smitty wrote:You can always play for free and fun.

I think this does have to do with how to improve the KDGA. I am not sure what direction we need to move with this, but many people are saying that we are not really heading in the right direction. What are some possibilities where money is concerned? Can we host low cost/low payout tourneys? Is there a need for this? How about a free tourney, where the club and sponsors supply all the prizes. I would do that, but driving to Norton seems to negate the purpose. Let's talk about entry fees and which divisions want high fees, and which want low. I would think Andvanced on up would want higher fees, but who knows. Maybe we can target one or two divisions that would rather not spend a ton of money, and try it at some events. Comments...
You are going to have a hard time finding a league or club to run an event for free. Most lower divisions are pretty cheap. I think that novice was $15.00 at Ransom and DC. That is about as cheap as you can go. Rog did a GW tourney, that you got your prizes when you signed up.
The Stockton event was a low cost/low payout event. NOBODY but the Hays people played this year. It is one of the most fun formats that we run all year.
The nature of people is to get more then what they give.

I was a KDGA member a couple of years ago, so I'll chime in...
I think that people are willing to pay as long as they know where the money goes. If there is no accountability, there is no way to know how much money there is and where it's going. Lord knows what kind of rumor and innuendo THAT can bring.
I'm not impling that any thing like this has EVER happened in the KDGA. I just know from my experience in the LFDC, that people want to see where the money is going. We try to make the records of the LFDC accessable to any one who wants to see it.
It's sometimes not too obvious where the cash is going. I'm going to be writing a check to the city of Lincoln here for tee pads. Lot's of people think that the city pays for everything. The city pays for next to nothing as far as disc golf goes in Lincoln.
If people are seeing baskets being bought and course being installed with KDGA funds, they probably won't be complaining about an extra buck or two. You have to toot your own horn sometimes.
