Santa Cruz and San Fran are sure bets. Go North past Sacramento to Grass Valley and Penn Valley. I played Condon Park and its killer. I hear Penn Valley is good too and only 15 min. west.
I'd devote a whole day to play Truckee on the north shore of Tahoe and then drive around Tahoe and play in South Lake Tahoe. Go swimming in the lake while your there. They have nice beaches on the south shore. If you travel down the west side of Tahoe, go to Emerald Beach and take the hiking trail up the mountain to the water fall. If you go down the east side of Tahoe, play the course in Zephyr Cove. If anything like these other two, it should be outstanding.
Modesto is very close to Stockton and should be a better course. Stockton is short and pretty open too, although a nice break from some of the treacherous terrain I faced recently on my trip. The courses I just mentioned won't trip you up though.
I'm sure there are several other great courses to play (92 in California?), such as around the Clear Lake area north of the bay area and also 3 or 4 hours south on 101 from Santa Cruz (Santa Maria and Atascadero). Those seem a little to far from Stockton.
Something else to do in Cali thats close to Stockton is Yosemite. Devote an entire day there or camp out as its hard to see much from the road. That place is huge!

Joey, did you read my post on going to California? I gave some course descriptions of the ones I went to.
I was planning on going to north California so I looked up all the courses in the course directory. Then I punched the city names in maps.google.com and found what courses were in reachable distance from Sacramento. Here's the list of what I came up with.
Auburn, Berkeley, Boonville, Davis, Fair Oaks, Felton, Grass Valley, Grass Valley, Kirkwood, Lakeport, Medocino, Modesto, Moraga, Napa, Novato, Oroville, Pebble Beach, Woodland, Penn Valley, Placerville, Rocklin, Sacramento, Orangevale, San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Seaside, Somerset, South Lake Tahoe, Stockton, Truckee, Ukiah, Ukiah, Vacaville, Zephyr Cove (Neveda).
I then looked at websites and posted on the PDGA forum to find out which courses people liked. One person in particular reaffirmed the picks I'd already made. I mentioned earlier in these two posts which courses I ended up visiting: Rocklin, Auburn, Grass Valley, Toney's Mountain, Truckee, South Lake Tahoe, Napa, Novato, Berkeley, San Francisco, Santa Cruz. I've also played Stockton, Orangevale, & Kirkwood.
The ones I missed that I wanted to play were Penn Valley, Ukiah, Lakeport, & Zephyr Cove.
If your going to South Lake Tahoe, I recommend playing Kirkwood on the way. It is a legitimate mountain course that is really nice in the summer.
If your in Sacramento, Orangevale isn't bad. Might as well head to Grass Valley & Penn Valley while your at it.
Sounds like you have plenty of time on your hands. Go spend a whole day in San Fran. For a large city with an even larger population density, the city is very clean. Driving around is pretty fun as the place looks different at every intersection. Go see Golden Gate Park, Chinatown, Telegraph Hill, whatever else, and then go across Golden Gate Bridge and see Muir Woods and Mt. Tamalais.

Enjoy Cali while you have it! Tons of stuff to do out there. I hit 11 courses in 4 days while somehow keeping the family entertained with other events and a whole lot of driving. How many courses can you hit Joey? Hehe, actually taking your time playing the nice courses is a lot better than doing a bunch of running around.
Let us know how everything goes. Your gonna love DeLaveaga! Tell us about Napa country club. Should be exclusive. If you play the other courses in that area, wear pants to avoid the brush. Novato is the most extreme course I've seen, but you'll get abused trying to play in that thick stuff. Don't forget Kirkwood!
